The first race of Adventure Cup Series 2021-2022, the Upper Murray Challenge starts this Saturday. The 16thedition of the race will introduce two new features; a shorter novice course and live tracking to allow all spectators to follow this iconic event. Participants will complete a unique course set within multiple private properties that is not accessible to the general public starting in Khancoban NSW and finishing in Corryong Victoria.
The race program>>
The Classic course remains the same – a true test for skills, endurance, grit and determination. 28 km of tough hilly mountain bike trails, 27 km of paddling on the fast -flowing Upper Murray River and 23.5 km of variable trail running against the backdrop of Mount Kosciuszko.
The Series unites three stand-alone races and brings together all levels of racers- elite and beginners who can join a unique friendly atmosphere of challenging and spectacular events. After each race all long course participants receive points. The scores are added up together at the end of the season and the Female and Male winners are announced! Whether you race in Relay, AR Duo or Solo category you still get the points.
The 2019-2021 season winners were Elizabeth Dornom and Josh Roy.
The 2018-2019 season winners were Maria Plyashechko and James Pretto.
The second stop is the Grampians Challenge, scheduled for the 27th of February 2022. This season the race will get a fresh look with Paul Gruber taking over the event. He’s got some amazing ideas which we are yet to know in detail, but the magical Grampians remains the same and it will be a great beginner-friendly event with lake paddle, scenic technical run through the McKenzie River gorge and a mountain bike ride overlooking the spectacular Wartook Valley in the Northern Grampians. Registration will open soon. Keep an eye on grampianschallenge.com.au.
The grand finale will be held in the most accessible Alpine resort - Mt Baw Baw on 16-17 April 2022. After a successful introduction of the race last year we cannot wait to see you again conquering this epic course. Will you beat your last years result?
You have got two race options: 84 km One Day Premier Challenge (featuring double Adventure Cup points) or the Two Day format with an overnight stop. The thrilling rapids of the Thomson River, flowing single tracks of Erica MTB park, historical gold-mining country of Walhalla and the Australian Alps walking track are highlights of this majestic course. An epic adventure! Check out the details on bawbawextreme.com.au and take advantage of early bird entry.
