Purpose
This document sets out exactly how the Adventure Cup points system and Adventure Passport work. We publish this in full because we believe you deserve to know precisely how your results translate into points, standings, rewards and lifetime recognition. These rules apply from the 2026 season onwards. If anything changes, we will update this document before the change takes effect — never retrospectively.
Part 1: Athlete Identity
Every individual athlete is identified by the combination of their first name, surname and date of birth. This three-field identity tracks your results accurately across every event, regardless of which team you race with, which teammate you bring, or which course you choose. Your Adventure Cup points and Passport stamps follow you individually and permanently.
Gender is recorded at registration and determines which Cup leaderboard your points contribute to — Men's or Women's — regardless of which team gender category you race in on the day.
Part 2: Team Categories and Divisions
Gender Categories
All teams race in one of three gender categories based on team composition:
- MM — all male team
- FF — all female team
- MIX — mixed gender team
Cup points are based on your team's finishing position within your gender category on race day. MM teams are ranked against MM teams, FF against FF, MIX against MIX. All three categories carry equal earning potential — a FF team that wins their category earns exactly the same base points as the MM winner and the MIX winner on the same course.
Divisions
Within each gender category, teams compete in one of three divisions:
- Open — no age restrictions
- Masters — all team members must be aged 45 or over on race day
- Family — at least one team member must be aged 12 or under on race day; minimum age varies by event and is specified in each event's race guide
Family division is available at Sprint Series, Adrenalin Quest and Coastal Quest events including the Epic course. Family division is not available at X-Marathon.
Division results are displayed in results and celebrated on the day. Division does not affect Cup points — your points come from your position within your full gender category across all divisions combined.
Part 3: Adventure Cup Points
Points Formula
Cup Points = ROUND(base_points × course_multiplier)
Minimum 10 points for any ranked finisher regardless of position or course. DNF and unranked earn 3 points flat. DNS and DQ earn 0 points.
Both teammates receive identical cup points based on the team result. For X-Marathon teams of four, all four individuals receive identical points.

Stage Race Handling — Quest Epic
For Adrenalin Quest and Coastal Quest Epic, your result is based on your aggregate time across all three stages — Friday, Saturday and Sunday combined. Epic athletes receive one points allocation for the combined Epic result. Athletes who enter the standalone Classic course (Saturday) or standalone Novice course (Sunday) at the same event are scored separately on their respective courses and are not ranked against Epic athletes.
Cup Gender Leaderboards
There are two Cup leaderboards — Men's and Women's. Your individual gender determines which leaderboard your points contribute to, not your team's gender category:
- A male athlete in a MIX team → his points go to the Men's leaderboard
- A female athlete in a MIX team → her points go to the Women's leaderboard
- Both receive identical points based on the MIX category result
This means a man and woman who race together in a MIX team that wins their category both receive 100 × multiplier points — contributing to their respective gender leaderboards equally.
Season Accumulation
Your season total is the sum of all Cup points earned across every event you raced during the calendar year. All results count — no dropped scores, no maximum event cap. A DNF or unranked result earns 3 points for that event — you showed up and you raced, and that counts. DNS and DQ earn zero points.
Part 4: Annual Cup Rewards
At the end of each season, once results are finalised and the appeals period has closed:
- Every finisher (at least one completed event in the season): 10% discount code for next season
- Top 3 on the Men's leaderboard: free entry to one event next season + podium recognition
- Top 3 on the Women's leaderboard: free entry to one event next season + podium recognition
Discount and free entry codes are issued via email to your registered address within 14 days of the season freeze date. Codes are valid for the following season only.
Tie-breaking where two athletes finish equal on season points: most events raced ranks higher. If still equal, shared rank — both listed at the same position.
Part 5: Adventure Passport
Stamps
Every individual finisher receives one stamp per event entry. Stamp type reflects the course completed:
